Outreach is a need-based ministry within WOCC that provides services to its members, the community and the world, as a result of a request for service or a referral of a need. The Outreach ministry is staffed by volunteer workers and sponsored through the charitable contributions of WOCC members, local businesses and individuals. An overview of Outreach services is described below.Member Outreach
Members of WOCC can call our help line (919-496-6742) or notify a member of WOCC Outreach Ministry Team if they have a need for an Outreach service (see church contact information). Out reach services for members may include special prayer, home or hospital visits, cards, telephone calls, home services* and referrals for resources as needed.
*(please contact our church or an Outreach worker for specifics on home services)
Community Outreach
Community members who are in need of an Outreach service may call the church directly (see church contact information). Outreach services for community members could include prayer, clothing, locating of resources to meet the specific need, or a referral to an appropriate local resource.
Christmas Families WOCC coordinated with local social services agencies to identify families who were currently in need to sponsor a designated number of families for Christmas. During 2005, in partnership with some local stores, members of WOCC purchased, wrapped and delivered Christmas gifts to show the love of Jesus to families. Christmas 2006, with the support of the WOCC members, local businesses and individuals Outreach again sponsored and helped families.
Locating the Needy in the past, WOCC has reached out to locate the needy in the community utilizing the help of United Way, Social Services, local businesses and WOCC members. As a result, donations of new clothing, shoes, gift certificates and household items were given to two shelters (one for children and one for victims of domestic violence), a county social services agency which distributed to local needy families, and a teenage girl needing back-to-school clothing.
Other Services include World Outreach
The Outreach ministry coordinates with service organizations, other ministries, businesses, individuals and the WOCC members to help people in need in other parts of the world. During the past years, WOCC gave monetary donations to purchase fresh drinking water for Haitians after a devastating hurricane hit the island. Shoes, clothing, bibles and toiletries were also sent to orphaned children in Haiti. Clothing (mostly new) and household items were sent to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
